✒️ The Green Mountain Boys flag, also known as the Stark Flag, is a historical banner associated with the Green Mountain Boys, a militia group active in Vermont during the American Revolution. While the exact design used by the Green Mountain Boys remains unknown, a reconstruction based on surviving fragments has become the most recognized version. This reconstruction features a field of green, likely reflecting the lush greenery of Vermont's Green Mountains. Prominently displayed in the canton, a blue rectangle positioned in the upper corner next to the flagpole, is a constellation of thirteen white, five-pointed stars. These stars represent the thirteen American colonies that fought for independence from Great Britain. The sole surviving piece of the original Green Mountain Boys flag is a fragment of the canton, housed in the Bennington Museum. This fragment displays remnants of green silk on three sides, along with a piece of green cloth with a decorative flourish from another section of the flag. Based on this fragment and historical accounts, historians have created the reconstruction most commonly associated with the Green Mountain Boys today. This flag serves as a symbol of Vermont's heritage and its role in the American Revolution. It is also used by the Vermont National Guard as a reminder of the state's militia tradition.
