βœ’οΈΒ The Holy Face of Christ, also known as the Image Not-Made-By-Hands, is an iconographic representation of the face of Jesus Christ. According to Orthodox Christian tradition, the image was created when Abgar, ruler of the Syrian city of Edessa, sent his court painter Ananias to paint an image of Jesus. Ananias was unable to approach Jesus, so he attempted to create an image from afar. Jesus then wiped his face with a towel, and his divine image was miraculously imprinted on the cloth. The image was then sent back to Abgar, who was healed of his leprosy upon seeing it. The Holy Face of Christ is celebrated on August 16th and is considered one of the earliest icons witnessed by the Church ΒΉ. I hope this helps!
