✒️ The arrival of the Continental Flag marked a turning point. For the first time, colonial banners completely shed British symbols. Initially, a plain white canton stood out against a red field, lacking a distinct emblem. New Englanders found a fitting symbol in the pine tree. Its simplicity, strength, and inherent dignity resonated with their way of life. It embodied their love for their pine-forested homeland. This pine tree emblem gained widespread use, finding its place on the canton of the Continental Flag, creating one of the variations known as the Pine Tree Flags. Some claim that a Continental Flag with a red field and a pine tree on the white canton was among the banners carried by American troops who bravely faced the British Regulars on the grassy slopes of Bunker Hill on that unforgettable day in June 1775, even halting their charge three times.
