✒️ The Knights Templar, a powerful Catholic military order active during the Crusades (c. 1119–1312), utilized several symbolic banners, with the most famous being the Baucent (also spelled Beauséant). This war flag typically featured a striking design of black over white. While the exact symbolism is debated, it is often interpreted that the black represented the ferocity of the Templars towards their enemies, and the white their purity and kindness towards their friends. Additionally, a red cross, often a cross pattée (with arms narrow at the center and broader at the ends), was prominently displayed on their white mantles and sometimes incorporated onto their flags, symbolizing their Christian faith and their willingness to shed blood for it. These iconic symbols became synonymous with the Templars' formidable reputation as elite warrior-monks.
